Introduction:

By now you’ve learned how proud we are to offer the Moxi and BBL treatments from Sciton for pigmentation, tone and texture concerns. Today, we have the privilege of delving deeper into the technology of these treatments with none other than Senior Medical Aesthetician, Taryn Johnston. Q: Taryn, thank you for joining us today. Can you tell us how long you’ve been performing the Moxi and BBL treatments?

A: I’ve been working with this machine for the past 4 years, and it’s become a staple of mine. Combined together, Moxi and BBL can pretty much address any skin concern that someone might have.

Q: Can you tell us about the Moxi and BBL treatments? What sets them apart from other skincare procedures?

A: Absolutely! Moxi is a fractional laser treatment that targets various skin concerns such as fine lines, uneven texture, and pigmentation irregularities. What sets Moxi apart is its versatility and gentleness. Moxi can be used safely on absolutely any skin tone, which is unusual for most lasers, and you can also safely treat melasma patients, which is a huge benefit. BBL, on the other hand, can be used on most skin types. It utilizes advanced light technology to address a wide range of skin issues, including sun damage, age spots, rosacea, and even acne. What makes BBL truly exceptional is its precision and effectiveness. By delivering targeted pulses of light energy, BBL triggers the skin’s natural healing process, resulting in clearer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin. Plus, with customizable settings, we can tailor the treatment to suit each individual’s unique needs, ensuring optimal results every time.

Q: We know that BBL, or Broad Band Light, is the world’s most powerful intense pulsated light. How does BBL differ from a traditional IPL treatment?

A: BBL is much more efficient than IPL because it can be personalized down to the singular marks on the skin. For example, if you come in for an IPL treatment and you have a variety of concerns (broken capillaries, cherry angiomas, pigmentation, etc) we have to ‘meet in the middle’ with the settings and treat to what your biggest concern would be, where with BBL, we can singularly address each concern in one treatment. This is doable because BBL offers us special filters to utilize certain wavelengths of light for the different areas and symptoms someone might be experiencing.

Q: That’s wonderful. It’s clear that both Moxi and BBL offer remarkable benefits for skincare enthusiasts. For those seeking a full treatment plan, what are some of your favorite treatments to pair with Moxi and BBL treatments?

One of our other team members, Dr. Georgina Ferzli, has been doing a lot of same-day Morpheus8 and Moxi sessions, which is a total resurfacing anti-aging treatment for tightening and resurfacing, and seeing really nice results. It is a stronger treatment, but highly effective for laxity and fine lines and wrinkles, especially in mature skin.

With BBL, we often pair with dermaplaning for texture, or microneedling to give the effects of a Dual Radiance treatment, but more precise, thanks to BBL’s custom filtering. BBL is also a great relief to patients struggling with acne, and I’ve found myself doing many BBL treatments in between a client’s AviClear session.

Q: That’s interesting. As our top AviClear provider, can you tell us more about how the BBL works for acne?

A: With BBL, we can perform treatments that can help active acne and breakouts, whereas a lot of our treatments can’t work or aren’t as effective on an active pimple. One of my clients who I see regularly has some pigmentation and a bit of redness, and breakouts. We treat the breakouts specifically with an acne filter from the BBL and can also correct the pigmentation at the same treatment, using a different wavelength. I also have a client with body acne that we use the acne protocol on, and it is able to heal the breakouts very quickly.

When I talk to patients about their acne, if they are prone to picking at blemishes, BBL is a great way to take their attention away from it. I tell them if they are experiencing a breakout and tempted to pick at it, to come see me for a BBL treatment to flatten it out almost immediately. That way they don’t get hyperpigmentation and acne scarring that we’d then be looking at a longer treatment plan. It’s great for my AviClear patients – if and when they purge during the AviClear process, a BBL in between sessions can alleviate it.

Q: It’s incredible to see the positive impact these treatments can have on individuals’ lives. Now, for our readers who may be considering Moxi or BBL, any final thoughts on what makes the treatment a must-try?

The main thing I love about these treatments, both separately and combined, is that they can be customized to such a degree. With BBL, we can focus on so many different concerns at one time, and with Moxi, it’s so universal, so we can deliver a light treatment with next to no downtime whatsoever, or we can do a more intense treatment to see a faster result. They’re really moldable to whatever situation you’re in and what your concerns are both on your skin and your preferences for downtime. It’s an easy treatment to work into anyone’s regimen, skin concerns, or lifestyle.

Q: Thank you, Taryn, for sharing your expertise and insights with us today. It’s been a pleasure learning more about Moxi and BBL and the incredible work you do at Tribeca Medspa.

A: Thank you for having me! It’s been a pleasure discussing these transformative treatments, and I look forward to helping more clients achieve their skincare goals in the future.

As our conversation comes to a close, it’s evident that Moxi and BBL are not just skincare treatments; they’re pathways to renewed confidence, vitality, and self-assurance. You can meet with Taryn or any of our medical providers today for a complimentary consultation to see if Moxi and BBL are right for you.
