Our vascular treatments are an effective way to eliminate unwanted blood vessels and telangiectasia (spider veins) from the face and body. Typically, these veins develop due to sun exposure, genetics and lifestyle and develop around the nose, cheeks, legs and ankles. Visible leg veins can affect more than just your appearance; they can also cause discomfort in the area and lead to more serious problems, including ulcers and blood clots.

Broken capillaries on the face can cause men and women to look older than they really are and can be a ding to your overall confidence. Evening out your skin tone by removing red and purple veins, will leave you with clearer, brighter skin, resulting in a younger looking you!

FAQs About Laser Vein Removal

What causes leg veins or spider veins?

You may have noticed dark purple or blue veins on the back of your legs, ankles or on your face; these are known as telangiectasia, or spider veins. There are many causes of spider veins – some controllable and others uncontrollable. Causes of spider veins include: standing or sitting for long periods which increases the pressure on the veins in your lower body; obesity; family history; pregnancy; gender; and age.

Veins are responsible for carrying blood throughout the body to the heart. All veins contain valves that open and close as blood passes them. Over time, if the valve is weakened or damaged, it may cause blood to pool inside the vein because it is not able to pass properly through it. This can result in the vein bulging and becoming visible on the skin. Spider veins may appear linear, branch-like or irregular.

Can spider veins go away?

Unfortunately, spider veins do not typically go away on their own; they usually worsen over time. However, this condition can be easily and effectively treated to minimize or completely eliminate the signs of visible veins.

How does laser vein removal work?

Laser vein removal is a non-surgical treatment method for safely and effectively removing unwanted visible veins on the legs, ankles and face. A highly focused beam of light is gently moved over the targeted area which is absorbed by oxyhemoglobin in the blood and transferred to thermal energy, while the surrounding skin is left unharmed. The heat injures and destroys the vein causing it to fade over time.

For your comfort, the handheld laser device contains a chilled tip that allows the skin to cool during treatment. Appointments are quick and easy and are usually completed in under an hour.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically, our patients undergo at least two laser vein treatments to achieve desired results.

What do I need to know before my Laser Vein Removal?

Laser vein removal cannot be performed on skin that is tan or burned from sun exposure. Self-tanner should not be used two weeks prior to your laser vein removal. Discontinue the use of any topical prescription medications, for example, Retin-A, Trilumen, Differin, etc., seven days before treatment.

What do I need to know after my Laser Vein Removal?

After the treatment, tanning should be avoided as this may cause melanin to regenerate and result in hyperpigmentation over time. Exercise and other strenuous activities should also be avoided for one to two weeks following the treatment.

Is there downtime?

There is no downtime after the treatment; you are free to go about your normal daily activities. You should refrain from working out or situations involving excessive heat (like saunas) for the first 72 hours. You may experience a slight bumpiness around the treated area, but this will subside within a few hours post-treatment.

How long does it take to see the full results?

Laser vein removal uses thermal energy to heat and destroy the spider veins which can take a few weeks. You can expect to see full results within three to four weeks of the treatment.

Is laser vein removal painful?

You may experience mild discomfort to the treated area, but this treatment is generally painless.

How do I know if I’m a candidate?

Not everyone will be candidates for this treatment. If you have unwanted spider veins that are small and surface level, you may be a good candidate. To discuss your candidacy and address any questions or concerns you have, we recommend starting with a complimentary consultation with one of our certified providers.
